Cough is one of the most common reasons that individuals seek health care, and yet it is largely unmeasured in clinical medicine and practice.

The stochastic nature of cough raises challenges in detecting statistically significant changes in cough frequency. Here we describe statistical properties of cough monitoring data and suggest a method to detect changes in its frequency.
